Jamal Sheikholeslami is a Kurdish artist residing in Mahabad (Mehabad), a Kurdish populated city located in the Iranian (Eastern) Kurdistan. Dr. Sheikholeslami, an M.D. by profession, was born in 1967 into a relatively typical Kurdish family. His father was a farmer, thus as a child Jamal was raised on a farm in the village of Lachin. Although Jamal went to school in Mahabad, he spent his summers on his father's farm during most of his childhood and youth.
After completing his secondary education, Jamal past the Iranian universities' entry exams successfully and was admitted to the Medical School of the University of Shahid Beheshti (Previously called Milli Univ.) in Tehran. In 1994, he graduated from the medical school and started to practice medicine first in Sardasht, then in Mahabad's Hospital and the Blood Transfusion Clinic. Currently he is practicing medicine, out of his own office, as a general practitioner in his hometown.
From the time he was a young man, Jamal showed a great passion for arts and literature, not only by being interested in others' arts and literary works but also by participating in producing pieces of arts from writing short poems to drawings and paintings. Lately, he primarily works with colour pencil and water based colour. This web site contains samples of his work.
